In addition to his direction of all phases of a variety of residential and commercial projects during this period of private practice, John provided consulting architectural and project management services to the Residential and Commercial Rehabilitation/Community Development Block Grant Program of the City of South San Francisco, and served as the architects-liason to the City's Design Review Board and Historic Preservation Commission. Prior to private practice, John was employed as a project architect for the firm of Rosekrans and Broder, Inc., San Francisco, focusing on historic preservation and the adaptive re-use of buildings for neighborhood cultural centers for the Arts Commission of San Francisco. His architectural apprenticeship was served in the Berkeley firm of Lyndon/Buchanan Architects. Since 1985, in addition to architectural practice, John has enjoyed the pleasure of contributing to the education of future environmental designers as an associate professor in architecture at the Community College of San Mateo, via courses in design, freehand graphics and architectural history.
